Animal feeding
Types of Feeders
- There are four primary types of feeders:
-
- Filter Feeders
- Aquatic Organisms (that consume plankton)
- Water washes through them, and use their unique structures to trap food.
- Need to ensure that their "filters" don't get damaged
- Common examples include manta rays, whales etc.
-
- Substrate Feeders
- These organisms live on their food source and eat through the same source.
- ie. (A caterpillar literally eats itself to create a butterfly)
- Fluid Feeder
- Suck or lick nutrients from other organisms
- Ie. (Bats, mosquitos, butterflies..)
- Suck or lick nutrients from other organisms
- Bulk Feeder
- Ingest large food and either swallow them whole or chew them into smaller pieces
